Benchmark Testing of CENDL-3.1

H. C. Wu, H. Zhang, H. Y. Zhang

The new release of CENDL library, CENDL-3.1, has been tested and improved extensively using benchmark calculations. These benchmarks include criticality safety benchmarks and fusion shielding benchmarks. For criticality safety, many benchmarks were chosen from the International Handbook of Criticality Safety Benchmark Experiments, including fast, intermediate and thermal spectrum. For fusion application, shielding benchmarks based on the IAEA specification for the OKTAVIAN/Osaka experiments, FNS/JAEA experiments and Lawrence Livermore Pulse Sphere experiments were used. Data libraries in ACE format were prepared with the NJOY nuclear data processing system. Monte Carlo calculations were done with MCNP4c code. The calculated results based on CENDL-2.1, CENDL-3.1, JENDL-3.3 and ENDF/B-VII.0 separately were compared with the benchmark values. The testing results showed the evaluations in CENDL-3.1 have been generallyimproved relative to CENDL-2.1, especially for some of light and medium materials.
